When I found out I was pregnant for the third time I thought ‘three times, that’s really, really bad’, but then I thought to myself ‘I can’t really blame myself because I’m on contraception. My boyfriend and I used condoms now and again because I can sometimes forget to take my pill regularly as I work nights. Obviously we don’t use them all the time and this time I used the morning after pill and I still got pregnant. With this pregnancy I chose to have a surgical abortion, which is what I had the first time. It was over quickly and I haven’t looked back since, unlike with my other abortions. With the first pregnancy the dad was a really nasty guy and choosing to abort was the best decision I’ve ever made. But with the second pregnancy I was with my boyfriend who I’m still with now, and the decision was so much more difficult. He definitely didn’t want it, which was the main reason I had an abortion but looking back now I can see it was the right decision ultimately. We didn’t have the right sort of lifestyle to have a baby and we still don’t, which is why I had an abortion with my third pregnancy as well. It was the abortion I thought about least afterwards. The only thing I was worried about was that I’d heard that having three abortions could lower your chances of getting pregnant in the future but I called the NHS and they assured me this wasn’t true. Other than that I had no doubts and am happy with the decision I made.
