I considered having an abortion after getting pregnant despite me having a Mirena IUS coil as my contraception. I was 28, happily married, building my career, and planning to have a child in my early 30s. It turned out that I didn’t need to have an abortion as the pregnancy was ectopic and I had to have surgery to remove it. However I was hugely grateful that I live in a country where I could have had a safe and legal an abortion if I’d wanted one. I strongly feel that this is an essential right I should have. I would never want to be forced into becoming a mother through circumstances and lack of choice.
